Make way for the women! We’re going strong and we want you!
Now with a number of wins under our belt across Heads and Regattas, we are pushing on ready to go even further in the new season. Continuing on with our tier system; the senior athletes will form the first tier, looking to compete at national level with the hope of boating at Henley Women’s for another year running, and our second tier, will be competing in regional competitions with hopes of retaining titles and winning new competitions.
Although split, all sessions are done together as a team and commitment is key across both tiers so we ask that our second tier rowers commit to 3 land sessions and 3 water sessions a week whilst our senior athletes will need to be able to commit to around 6 land sessions and 5 water sessions a week.
In previous years the women’s squad has boasted a World Champion who, like most other members of the group learned to row with the Star Club ladies.
The women’s squad has recently been presented with a brand new lightweight Filippi double which plays host to our top tier athletes and is going for Henley and even further in events to come. We are also in the position to boat two quads as well as an assortment of smaller boats all for Head racing and the Regatta season. Star Club has headed or been close to the top of the National rankings for successes in recent years.
Crews are well supported with group and individual programmes agreed with coaches for both land and water based training and race preparation across both tiers. Attention is focused on endurance and mileage from September for Head racing up to March, leading to shorter Regatta distances over the Summer including the aim of Women’s Henley once again!
