Active engagement of all members with the Management Board is critical: please get in touch to offer your help in the areas that excite you. All of these roles need support to share the load and to ensure that you have a say in how things are done. Below, you will be able to find all the points of contact and the remit for each role.
Chairman
David Rainbow
Spokesperson and representative of the Club on business matters. Responsible for effective and compliant operation of Star Club through the Management Board and in close liaison with the broader membership. Ensures an annual operating plan and budget is devised and delivered in the context of an agreed strategy.
Club Captain
Dom Hawes
Spokesperson and representative of the Club on rowing matters. Ensures rowers’ safety through assurance that all are correctly and comprehensibly briefed about the Club’s rules and requirements. Builds on rowing performance and encourages the ambitions and aims of all members in a harmonious environment. Makes the best use of the current boats and oars, reviewing equipment utilization and boat sharing arrangements on a regular basis. Establishes and develops a new entrant programme and development pathway for their progression. Oversees maintenance of Club boats, oars and other equipment (including ergos and gym) in optimum condition.

JUNIOR LIAISON
CHRIS CALLOW
Ensures that the Junior Squad’s ideas and good practice are factored into broader Club planning. Participates in and advises on how best to leverage and integrate with other squads within the Club.

Club Secretary

Liz Appleton
Oversees Star Club’s governance and compliance with the Club’s Constitution. Facilitates effective organization of meetings and ensures the management, control and archiving of Club documentation.

Acting Treasurer
David Rainbow
Ensures the integrity of all Financial matters relating to Star Club. Facilitates the agreement of an annual budget and reports actual performance to the Management Board to aid decision making. Prepares annual Financial Statements at year end. Makes statutory returns (including VAT). Ensures appropriate insurance of premises and equipment and the management of claims.

Welfare and safeguarding officer

Lisa Thomson
Ensures that the Club complies with legislation, adheres to good practice and adopts British Rowing’s guidelines with regard to all aspects of welfare and safeguarding, with special reference to juniors and vulnerable adults. Also, that members understand Club policy and their obligations in the area of welfare and safeguarding.
Bar & Hospitality
Andy chillingsworth
Oversees the Bar and Clubroom and provision of optimum service levels to members and to venue hire clients. Ensures continuity of operation (staffing, stocks, recording takings and maintaining equipment), either through direct operation by Star Club, or through approved and closely-managed outsourcing arrangements. Ensures that the facilities are marketed to maximise income generation for the Club.

premises
andrew thomson
Oversees maintenance and servicing of the premises; refurbishment in-line with an agreed programme plan; organization of repairs where necessary. This includes oversight of premises cleaning. Responsible for intruder alarm system and also the CCTV, external lighting, heating and ventilation systems. Documents procedures and compliance with them (including Health and Safety). Maintains a register of key holders and oversees emergency call-out rota.
Rowing events
Nicola durrant
Plans and stages Star Club regattas and head races and ensures submission of post-event returns to British Rowing, working with an extensive support team and voluntary effort on the day from all Club members. Liaises with the Club Captain to determine appropriate additional events, resourced through separate teams.

membership & communications
Katrina Payne
Develops and delivers an impactful communications strategy, to deliver motivational and profile-building news stories and informative content. Also, a strategy for Membership management to produce effective and efficient rules and records system. Supported by a group which manages day to day aspects of Membership, Communications and PR, including web, social media and print. Reports up to date membership status to the Management Board.
